Roger Cook to star in a remake of Spotswood

ree

Can you remember the Government announcement about the film studios to be constructed at Malaga? The latest update is that they are set to open in 2026 and are expected to create up to 600 local jobs. West Australian screen industry workers are calling for the state government to enforce its policy to employ local businesses ahead of the opening of the Perth film studio.

I am led to believe that our esteemed Premier, Roger ‘Captain’ Cook has a vested interest in the first production due to be filmed there. It will be a remake of the 1991 Aussie classic “Spotswood’, which pretty much flew under the radar. Amazing since amongst the cast was Sir Anthony Hopkins and some amazing young talent Ben Mendelsohn, Toni Collette, Russell Crowe and Dan Wyllie.

As I understand it Roger Cook will be taking on the lead role (played by Anthony Hopkins) of the Management Consultant who is brought in to save the ailing Slipper factory, Spotswood. The only way to save the company is to make some savage cuts (Roger should be good at that! Maybe he can get his trusty sidekick to do it for him). Eventually the Management Consultant is won over by the community spirit of the workers and their passion for, get this, here is the kicker………slot car racing!

By the end of the movie he has fully embraced the whole concept of the importance of the factory as part of society and the role that the company has to play, he has become a slot car addict!

So, where does that leave us at Burswood Peninsula? Just imagine that Captain Cook constructs a giant slot car track around the roof of Optus Stadium. Lots of opportunity to overtake, to build up speed and imagine those amazing camera angles over Perth city, the Swan River and Kings Park. The best part about this is that it does not involve ripping up the parkland and there will be no noise. It’s a real win win.

Arise Sir Roger Cook!
