Now that we have moved into 2026, maybe, just maybe, it’s time for Premier Roger Cook to smell the roses. Or, more appropriately, to appreciate the pristine environment on the Burswood Peninsula.
The V8 Race Car Debacle
Premier Cook kicked off 2025 in a V8 race car, asking us to imagine the noise of these cars racing around a so-called ‘street circuit’ at Burswood. As the year progressed, the smoke-and-mirrors approach to government revealed itself for the nonsense that it was. The Premier and his deputy dug in their heels, and it didn’t take much digging in the Burswood turf.
We had a sham ‘public consultation,’ a sham Environmental Protection Agency review, and a series of nasty personal attacks on those who opposed this Frankenstein government. The truth-twisting and alternative facts were a wonder to behold. It’s like watching a magician pull a rabbit out of a hat, except the rabbit is a bunch of lies.
The Birth of 'Perth Park'
Suddenly, we now have ‘Perth Park.’ The Premier and his advisors have finally woken up to the fact that the noise of V8s racing around a newly created track (not a street circuit) within metres of homes is not ideal. How do residents cope with this? Leave their homes when racing takes place? Wear earplugs inside their homes? Buy triple glazing? This is not a sketch from Utopia; it’s a nightmare.
The Community's Voice
It’s essential to listen to the community. We are not just a bunch of noise complaints. We are concerned citizens who care about our environment. The Save Burswood Park Alliance aims to stop the Cook Labor Government's plan to build a V8 Supercars race track on Burswood Peninsula. We want to protect the existing parkland and ensure the project's impracticality and negative impacts are fully considered.
The Ideal Solution
Premier, the ideal solution to this hole you have created is to stop digging. Take a look at the mess you have made and put in the planned urban forest. The electorate will thank you for it. Imagine a lush, green space where families can picnic, kids can play, and wildlife can thrive. Doesn’t that sound better than the roar of engines and the smell of burning rubber?
A Call to Action
We need to rally together. Let’s make our voices heard. Write to your local representatives. Attend community meetings. Share your thoughts on social media. The more we speak up, the harder it will be for the government to ignore us.
Why Burswood Matters
Burswood Peninsula is more than just a piece of land; it’s a vital part of our community. It’s a sanctuary for wildlife and a place for families to connect with nature. We must protect it. The V8 Supercars race track is a threat to this precious environment. It’s time to prioritize our parks over profit.
The Future We Deserve
Imagine a future where Burswood Peninsula is a thriving urban forest. Picture walking through tree-lined paths, breathing in fresh air, and enjoying the sounds of nature instead of the noise of racing cars. This is the future we deserve.
In conclusion, let’s not allow the allure of fast cars to overshadow the beauty of our environment. It’s time for Premier Roger Cook to take a step back, listen to the community, and make the right choice for Burswood Peninsula. Together, we can ensure that our voices are heard and that our environment is protected for generations to come.
Let’s make this happen!
